Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information WorthTheBite (operated by Duskline Ventures LLC) collects, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
If you use WorthTheBite without an account. You do not need an account to browse or to submit a rating. When you submit a rating, we collect only what you provide: the restaurant name, dish name, rating, and location (city and region/state/province). If you rate without signing in, we do not collect your name or email address.
If you create an account (optional). You can sign in to keep track of your ratings, view My Ratings and your Taste Card, and claim a public @username. When you sign in, we receive the account information from your sign-in method, such as your email address, and we assign your account a unique account ID. We also store the username you choose. Ratings you submit while signed in are connected to your account ID.
Photos. You may optionally submit a photo of a dish. A photo you suggest as the main photo for a dish is reviewed before it is shown to everyone. You may also add a personal photo to a dish you have rated, which is shown on your own profile (see Section 2). Because a photo is a real image rather than typed text, it can, even unintentionally, contain personal details, such as another person's face in the background or other identifying information. Please don't include other identifiable people or sensitive personal information (such as payment cards or ID documents) in photos you submit.
Ratings and photos displayed on the platform are public. If you claim a username, you also get a public profile page (worththebite.io/u/yourusername) that shows your username, the dishes you have rated and your ratings, any personal photos you have added, and a Taste Card if you choose to create one. Anyone can view your profile. Your email address is not displayed on your profile.
Our database is publicly readable by the website, so the account ID attached to ratings you make while signed in is visible there, even if you have not claimed a username. The account ID is a random identifier, not your name or email address.
We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand how visitors use our site, such as which pages are viewed and general traffic patterns. Google Analytics may automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, and pages visited. When a rating is submitted, we also send Google Analytics an event that includes the restaurant, dish, and rating, so we can measure how the platform is used. These events do not include your account information. This information is used to improve the platform and is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
To show dishes near you, WorthTheBite estimates your city. By default it does this from your IP address, without asking for permission, by sending a request to a third-party service (BigDataCloud). If you allow your browser to share your device's location, we use that instead for a more accurate result, and your coordinates are sent to the same service to find your city. You can decline the location prompt and choose a city manually instead.
The resulting city and region, and the coordinates if you shared your device location, are saved in your browser's local storage on your own device so the site can show nearby results on your next visit. We do not store your device location on our servers. You can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
The information you submit (restaurant name, dish, rating, location, and any photo) is used to display community ratings on the platform, and, for signed-in users, to power features such as My Ratings, your Taste Card, and your public profile.
WorthTheBite may also use, aggregate, and license submitted content, including ratings and photos, to third parties such as restaurant platforms, delivery services, search engines, or data partners, as described in our Terms of Service. When we license or share data this way, we do not include your email address or other sign-in information. We do not sell your email address or other account information.
WorthTheBite uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies to help us understand site usage (for example, distinguishing new visitors from returning ones). Your browser's local storage is also used to remember your city and search radius, to cache your favorites so the site loads faster, and, if you sign in, to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or ad-retargeting cookies, and WorthTheBite does not run or serve ads.
We use the following third-party services to operate the platform:
Firebase (Google) — for database storage (including submitted ratings, photos, and account information), website hosting, and authentication (visitor sign-in and our admin panel). Your submitted reviews and photos are stored on Firebase's servers. Firebase's privacy practices are governed by Google's Privacy Policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
Google Analytics — used to understand site traffic and usage patterns. Governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
BigDataCloud — used to turn your IP address or device location into a city name for the Local Favorites feature, as described in Section 4.
EmailJS — used to send internal notification emails when a new review or photo is submitted. These notifications contain the restaurant, dish, and rating details, not your account information. No user data is stored by EmailJS beyond what is necessary to deliver the notification.
Submitted reviews and photos are stored indefinitely to maintain the usefulness of the platform. Submissions made without an account are not linked to any personal account or identity, so there is generally no personal data to delete. If you believe a specific submission, including a photo, contains personal information about you (including if you were photographed by someone else without your knowledge) that you would like removed, please contact us.
If you have an account, you can ask us to delete it by emailing us at the address below. We will delete your account, username, and profile, remove your personal photos, and disconnect your remaining ratings from your account. The ratings themselves may remain on the platform as anonymous community data. Account deletion is handled manually, so it may take some time. Please note that a username cannot be changed once it is claimed.
WorthTheBite is not directed at children under the age of 13, and accounts may not be created by anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information or created an account through our platform, please contact us and we will promptly address it.
If you are located in the European Union or California, you may have additional rights regarding your personal data, such as the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you. If you have an account, you can make these requests by emailing us at the address below. If you submit ratings without an account, WorthTheBite does not collect personally identifiable information about you. Because submitted photos could incidentally contain personal information about someone other than the submitter, anyone, not only the person who made the submission, may contact us to request that a specific photo be reviewed or removed.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
